This particular story starts with Jan van Ryn. Establishing the Van Ryn Wine and Spirit Company near Cape Town in 1845, he went in search of the best quality grapes. Once satisfied that he had only the best ingredients, he started the process, maturing his liquid in French oak barrels. This helps achieve an exceptionally smooth brandy.
